Last Thursday evening, when I kept calling my daughter to come and have dinner with us, she just continued drawing and didn’t want to come. Usually, I get angry to make her listen to me. But then, this time I slowed down. I decided to calm down and thought that it’s ok if she is not going to have dinner with us.

When I shout at her in anger – I am giving her the message that “something is wrong with her when she doesn’t listen to me”.

I didn’t want to convey that message. I then spoke about it at a later time when we both were at leisure and I explained the importance of eating on time and eating together as a family.

My Learning to Share

When we get angry at kids – we convey a message that something is wrong with them and it affects their self worth as they grow older. Instead, tell them that if I am angry, it just means that mommy is angry and it doesn’t mean anything about them. Also explain that nothing is wrong with them ever.

How do you feel when your parents shout at you?

When you get angry at your kids do you tell them that it’s about them or is it about you?

Let me know your thoughts..
