Is there enough love in movies? Is your child watching violent stuff?

Love, guide and let go!

All we can do is let go and trust them. We can guide them and tell them how watching violence will impact them, but the choice is always theirs.

Recently my 11 year old daughter had a play date and night stay with her friends. When I let these 11 year olds together, they started watching a Korean web series which was very violent. My husband was not able to watch this series even for a few minutes and wanted them to stop watching it. But the kids were hooked to the violent series and wanted to know what happens next. This made we wonder – do we have enough love in the world of movies and web series? I then started intervening and I wanted them to watch some animation movies which had a happy ending. But these 11 year olds were not interested in happy ending movies and they preferred violence. While the film making industry makes a lot of money with violence, are we portraying the right attitude to our kids?

I would say it’s totally the parents responsibility to filter stuff and show it to the kids. But how long can we filter it? Won’t the kids come to age and see all these violence? Will it not affect their character and their attitude towards life?

I can just ponder, and I also realise I absolutely have zero control over what information our kids consume as they grow older. The only thing we can do is lovingly guide them, and trust them and surrender to God

My Learning to Share

I believe we have no control over the information our pre-teen kids consume. They will meet the outside world at some point and I realise all we can do is let go and trust them. We can guide them and tell them how watching violence will impact them, but the choice is always theirs.

Love, Guide and Let Go!

Do you agree with what I shared above?

Do you have any other effective way of avoiding violent series/movies for our kids?

Let me know your thoughts..

We cannot avoid them watching anything. We can teach or show them what is good or bad, what are the effects of those things, how to control their mind. Kids are the most curious ones in life. They are always eager to know new things. The only thing we can do is teach them and not to restrict them. Whenever we restrict them, their curiosity increases more and make them to do more.

Being the “keeper of why” for our children, wearing the hat of a mentor to guide them towards positivity enriching resources in the media are key.
Also I love the perspective in this blog:
” I don’t think as a parent i have control of what they consume as they grow up, transform”..Yet, continue grooming them as their best friend
